 Prompted by their upcoming visit to Athens on September 23rd 2026 and their show at Fuzz Club, we start a new chapter in HEAVY METAL SATAN, called “Metal History Lessons”. In those articles we will be introducing bands and the history behind them to all of you.

After refining their dark and seductive vision of alternative/gothic metal to surreal, cinematic levels with three EPs and a full-length album, The Cause of Shipwreck, behind them, the Assen-based Blackbriarcontinue to set their sails towards the future in 2023, signing with Nuclear Blast Records and working towards their second full-length album, again accompanied by long-time collaborator Joost van den Broek.

Formed in 2012 by Zora Cock, René Boxem, Bart Winters, and Frank Akkerman, they crafted their first single in 2014 with “Ready to Kill,” but it was 2015’s second single “Until Eternity” that truly propelled them into the scene. A sweeping track with an equally compelling and beautiful video, it continues to draw many to the act with over 18.1 million views since its debut. Taking advantage of the growing buzz surrounding the band, they independently recorded and released their first EP, Fractured Fairytales, as well as acquiring a second guitarist in Robin Koezen. This EP layed down an impressive foundation for the band’s ethereal and breathtaking sound and brought about new opportunities for the act, including tour dates in The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium,

Entering 2021, the band relinquished a bit of control in signing exclusively with Doomstar Bookings to help properly support their highly anticipated first full-length album, The Cause of Shipwreck, which released in April. Once again recorded with renowned producer Joost van den Broek (Epica, Ayreon, Powerwolf) at Sandlane Recording Facilities, this release showcased the band’s continued evolution into masterfully dark gothic storytelling and theatrical aesthetics that entice you into a deadly yet spellbinding musical paradise. On the live front, launching into success with six sold out Dutch club shows, they later extended into more European territories such as Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, and the Czech Republic as the band moved into 2022.

With their vision looking firmly into the future, with a major label behind them, they set their sights on 2023 to conjure their most deadly siren song yet. With accolades behind them, such as being nominated three times for ‘Best Artist’ in EuroSonic/Noorderslag‘s Popgala Noord (2018, 2020, 2022), and continued fan support with current monthly streaming totals on YouTube and Spotify near 1 million streams, the world is primed and ready for a spectacular journey ahead.  Blackbriar continues to soar, ready to lure you into the sea to be swept away by addictive hooks, cinematic soundscapes, and darkly whimsical storytelling.

Οι Satyricon επιστρέφουν στην Αθήνα, μετά από πολλά χρόνια, την Παρασκευή 18 Σεπτεμβρίου στο Floyd Live Music Venue. Oι ηγέτες της νορβηγικής black metal σκηνής έρχονται για να μας αποδείξουν πως, σχεδόν 35 χρόνια από το ξεκίνημά τους, παραμένουν ανελέητοι και μεγαλειώδεις!

Η διάθεση των εισιτηρίων ξεκινά την Τετάρτη 10/12 στις 12:00, με πρώτη τιμή τα 34€, για περιορισμένο αριθμό. Οι επόμενες φάσεις θα ανακοινωθούν στην πορεία.

Πρωτοπόροι, ιδιοσυγκρασιακοί και μόνιμα «αιρετικοί», οι Satyricon οδήγησαν την ήδη ακμάζουσα black metal σκηνή των 90s σε νέους, ακόμη πιο σκοτεινούς και συναρπαστικούς δρόμους, με δίσκους που όρισαν το είδος, ενώ έγιναν και οι πρώτοι που υπέγραψαν σε πολυεθνική δισκογραφική.

Με τη μυθική τριπλέτα “Dark Medieval Times” (1993), “The Shadowthrone” (1994) και “Nemesis Divina” (1996) επέβαλαν το δικό τους μανιφέστο υπολογισμένης ψυχρότητας και δύναμης, με τη συνέχεια - με albums όπως τα “Rebel Extravaganza”, "Now, Diabolical" και "Deep Calleth Upon Deep" - να κάνει πράξη τα λόγια των δύο μόνιμων μελών τους, του frontman Satyr και του ντράμερ-θηρίου Frost: πως οι Satyricon αναζητούν με τόλμη νέα ηχητικά μονοπάτια, μένοντας πάντα πιστοί στον πυρήνα του black metal.

Με τη νέα δουλειά τους να αναμένεται μέσα στη νέα χρονιά, η τελευταία τους κυκλοφορία ήταν ο δίσκος "Satyricon & Munch" (2022), ένα project εμπνευσμένο από τα έργα του θρυλικού εικαστικού Edvard Munch, το οποίο συνόδευσε ηχητικά έκθεση στο διάσημο μουσείο.

Το φθινόπωρο του 2026 θα ξεκινήσει με μια βραδιά που θα τιμήσει όχι μόνο το black metal αλλά και τον σκληρό ήχο συνολικά, με τους Νορβηγούς βασιλιάδες να επαναφέρουν στη σκηνή ύμνους όπως τα “Mother North”, “Transcendental Requiem Of Slaves”, “The Pentagram Burns”, “Fuel For Hatred”, “K.I.N.G.”, ”Walk the Path of Sorrow”, ”Black Crow on a Tombstone”, σε ένα setlist που υπόσχεται καθαρτική ένταση και ατμόσφαιρα.

As days go by, Blackbriar shows in Greece are approaching…But who is “Blackbriar”?

“ Blackbriar is a Dutch alternative metal band from Assen. They have released three albums, four EPs, six singles, twelve official music videos, one official lyric video and four acoustic live videos. In October 2019, Blackbriar joined Epica as official support during their Design Your Universe 10th Anniversary Tour.” (Source Wikipedia)

 I personally, discovered BLACKBRIAR by clicking on their music video “Arms of the Ocean” on YouTube, charmed by the kind of witchy  thumbnail and instantly fell in love. The siren vocals along with the heavy riffs was something magical. “I’d rather burn” is also one of my favourites of them, that kept me company during the Corona Virus quarantine. Also a song that I enjoyed singing by myself at home a lot trying to practice my vocals during that difficult era of everyone’s lives. “Until Eternity” is a beautiful classic of them and “Snow white and Rose Red” which refers to the homonym fairytale, has a special place in my heart, as I decided to even name pets after this one. 

We have been waiting for Blackbriar for a very long time to visit Greece and finally the time has come.

The band will visit Greece for two shows for the “A Thousand Little Deaths” Tour , one will take place in Thessaloniki on the 22nd of September at Eighthball and the second one in Athens, on Wednesday 23rd of September, 2026 at Fuzz Club.

Οι PATRIARKH, η νέα ενσάρκωση των Batushka, επιστρέφουν στην Ελλάδα για δύο πολυαναμενόμενες εμφανίσεις, φέρνοντας μαζί τους ένα από τα πιο φιλόδοξα και ατμοσφαιρικά έργα της σύγχρονης black metal σκηνής.

Μετά από πέντε χρόνια δημιουργικής σιωπής από την κυκλοφορία του πολυσυζητημένου Hospodi, οι PATRIARKH ανοίγουν ένα νέο κεφάλαιο με το concept album "Prophet Ilja (Prorok Ilja)", ένα έργο που ξεπερνά τα όρια ενός παραδοσιακού metal δίσκου και λειτουργεί ως μια ολοκληρωμένη μουσική και θεατρική αφήγηση.

Το άλμπουμ βασίζεται στην αληθινή ιστορία του Eliasz Klimowicz, γνωστού ως Προφήτη Ηλία, μιας μυστηριώδους προσωπικότητας που ηγήθηκε της Ορθόδοξης Σέκτας του Grzybowska στην περιοχή Podlasie της Πολωνίας κατά τις δεκαετίες του 1930 και του 1940. Μέσα από οκτώ νέες συνθέσεις, οι PATRIARKH μεταφέρουν τον ακροατή σε έναν κόσμο όπου η πίστη, ο μυστικισμός, η λαϊκή παράδοση και ο ανθρώπινος μύθος συνυπάρχουν.

Η μουσική τους διατηρεί τον χαρακτηριστικό συνδυασμό ορθόδοξης λειτουργικής μουσικής, black και doom metal που καθιέρωσε τους Batushka, εμπλουτίζοντάς τον με folk επιρροές, neofolk αισθητική, κινηματογραφικές ενορχηστρώσεις και συμφωνικά στοιχεία. Παραδοσιακά όργανα όπως η tagelharpa, η hurdy-gurdy, το mandocello και το hammered dulcimer συναντούν πολυφωνικές χορωδίες, βυζαντινά μοτίβα και ορχηστρικά μέρη, δημιουργώντας μία από τις πιο πολυδιάστατες κυκλοφορίες της πρόσφατης ευρωπαϊκής metal σκηνής.

Στιχουργικά, το "Prophet Ilja" αντλεί έμπνευση από το θεατρικό έργο του Tadeusz Słobodzianek, ιστορικές καταγραφές του Włodzimierz Pawluczuk, αλλά και λειτουργικά και λαϊκά κείμενα, χρησιμοποιώντας για πρώτη φορά ένα πολυγλωσσικό μωσαϊκό που περιλαμβάνει Παλαιοεκκλησιαστικά Σλαβονικά, Λευκορωσικά, Ρωσικά, Ελληνικά, Ρουμανικά, Βουλγαρικά, τοπικές διαλέκτους της Podlasie και Πολωνικά.

Πιστοί στη θεατρικότητα και την τελετουργική αισθητική που τους καθιέρωσε, οι PATRIARKH μετατρέπουν κάθε εμφάνισή τους σε μια καθηλωτική εμπειρία, όπου η μουσική, το φως και η σκηνική παρουσία λειτουργούν ως αναπόσπαστα στοιχεία μιας σκοτεινής λειτουργίας.

Τον Νοέμβριο του 2026, το ελληνικό κοινό θα έχει την ευκαιρία να βιώσει αυτή τη μοναδική εμπειρία σε δύο αποκλειστικές εμφανίσεις.

On August 1, we’re opening the gates for a special Tribute Day, a standalone event built around some of the most iconic names in rock and metal, brought back to life on stage by international tribute bands, plus a full afterparty to carry it further into the night. This is not part of the main festival days, but an extra experience for those who want to stay a little longer.

  Rockstadt Extreme Fest, the Extreme Music gathering with its roots in the heart of Transylvania this year changes location as it grows bigger and bigger attracting more metalheads in the woods. According to the article of the map of the festival from the official Rockstadt website: 

“The new location is part of a cultural project initiated and developed by the Municipality of Ghimbav, designed to become a long-term cultural hub for multiple events and initiatives. Rockstadt Extreme Fest will be the first festival to open this space and give it life, something that carries real meaning for us.

The new festival grounds are almost three times larger than the entire area we previously used in Râșnov, giving us the freedom to build Rockstadt exactly the way we’ve envisioned it.

The production area alone, located behind the stages, covers approximately 2.4 hectares. To put that into perspective, the full festival area in Râșnov was 2.1 hectares. This scale allows us to take stage setups and production to another level. The exact stage layout may still be adjusted, depending on production requirements, but the flexibility is now there.

More space also means real improvements to the overall experience. This new location allows us to eliminate issues we’ve faced in the past, such as long queues at bars or congested areas. Expect expanded bar zones, a larger food court, more toilets, and more relaxation areas. Everything is designed to feel open, comfortable and easy to navigate, whether you’re at the front of the stage or taking a break between shows.

The camping area will be able to accommodate at least 4,000 people, and tickets for the campervan area will be available soon.

As always, Rockstadt Extreme Fest will continue to offer some of the best prices you’ll find at a major festival in Romania, across tickets, food and drinks. That remains a core value for us.

This new space doesn’t just allow us to grow logistically. It gives us room to expand ideas, activities and experiences that put the community at the center of the festival. For us, the crowd isn’t an afterthought. It’s a headliner.
